For centuries (yep, centuries!)  Ascot has been the centerpiece to see and be seen of the British Social Calendar. You show off your status and your money…but above all, you show off your fashion.

Now, organizers, worried by the rising importance and extragance of the public attire, have just released a guideline of sartorial standards for Ascot.

The new dress code states:

 For women,

1.    "Hats should be worn; a headpiece which has a base of four inches (10cm) or more in diameter is acceptable as an alternative to a hat."

2.    They will also be expected to wear skirts or dresses of "modest length" that fall just above the knee or longer. Miniskirts were "considered unsuitable".

For men, a waistcoat and tie are now compulsory in this area of the course and cravats will not be allowed. Black shoes must also be worn with morning dress.

"It is stretching a point to say standards have collapsed but there is no doubt that our customers would like to get back to a situation where it is universally acknowledged that this is a formal occasion and not an occasion where you might dress as you would at a nightclub." - Nick Smith, spokeman of Ascot.

El nuevo dress code es el siguiente:

Para las mujeres,

1.    “Se debe llevar sombrero, una pieza con una base que no supere los 10 cm de diámetro es aceptable como alternativa al sombrero.”

2.    Se debe vestir falda o vestido a la altura de la rodilla o más larga. Las minifaldas no son consideradas apropiadas.

Para los hombres, los chalecos y las corbatas son consideradas obligatorias en el área de carreras, los pañuelos de cuello no están permitidos. Los zapatos negros también se deben utilizar con los trajes de día.
